Boskone 58 will host virtual gaming on Board Game Arena (BGA).

If you do not already have a Board Game Arena account, we recommend you create one up prior to the convention.

To create a Board Game Arena account

  • Go to: https://en.boardgamearena.com/
  • Click on “Log In” in the upper right corner
  • Click the Register button
  • Choose a player name, password and enter your email
    • You can also register using your Facebook or Google account, if you prefer
  • Board Game Arena will send you an email that you must open and click on the embedded link to confirm that your email is active.
  • Once you click on the link in your email, you will be taken back to Board Game Arena to click on the reCaptcha box to prove that you are not a robot.
  • You will then be asked to click on any games that you already know. You can either complete this step or click on the “Skip this Step” link.
  • After clicking the games that you know, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the “I’m Done” button.
    • Board Game Arena will give you the option to either play a quick game of Can’t Stop against an AI to learn how to use the online gaming system, or to skip this step.

FAQs

 

  • Do I have to pay for a Board Game Arena membership in addition to my Boskone 58 membership?
    • No. You can create a free BGA account allows you to play games on BGA.
      • BGA does offer a paid membership option that allows out to blown membership to start games on their site. But you do not need the paid version to play games at Boskone.
  • How will Boskone 58 gamers communicate during the convention?
    • Zoom. A Zoom link will be posted on the item in the schedule that will take you to the gaming page. From there, for each scheduled game, there will be multiple games. If you don’t know how to play or you aren’t familiar with the particular controls for that game, not to worry. Teachers will be on hand and there will be breakout rooms for each game on zoom so each game can talk among themselves independently. It’s also possible to chat via typing
      on BGA, but it’s slow.
  • Will teaching games be ranked?
    • No. Players who know how to play and are already familiar with BGA will have the option of starting a ranked game.
  • Do I need to share my BGA user ID with anyone?
    • Yes, please share with Boskone 58 Gaming coordinator, Bill Todd (nagash3060). Otherwise he will not know how to find you.
  • Do I need to friend Boskone attendees on BGA?
    • We recommend that you do as it makes it much easier to start a game without having to worry about random people jumping in.
